Phytase is an exogenous enzyme that hydrolyzes phytic acid (phytate), releasing phytate-bound phosphorus and improving its bioavailability. Since monogastric animals have limited endogenous phytase activity, dietary phytase supplementation enhances phosphorus utilization, improves nutrient digestibility, and reduces phosphorus excretion
